The light is warm. The light is water.
by Steven McCabe
Glass continues the journey of light –
flooding the walls & flooding the floors
with colour as light as air.
I am an apprentice.
Today my wedding day.
My master creates a window for the Magi.
I invite my master to the festivities.
After bidding my guests ado
I take my bride to the wedding bed.
The Magi (flooding light) flood my master’s studio.
The light is warm. The light is water.
Tonight I am the flood.
Might I ask of you –
Might you remember –
this apprentice,
on his wedding day
and say,
The light is warm.
The light is water.

I am haunted by the red sticks and I am so grateful that we have not destroyed so many beauties from so far in our past and I thank you for remembrance of the artisans and their apprentices and families who were not that much different from us and who labored to create the beauties we continue to cherish and protect…our muses.
Thank you John for this comment and your reflection on artisans and communities of the past. I think I touched on things that wanted to be said.
Not sure why here and now but you’ve brought the question of individual lives, like ours, in art history (probably the unknown figures, the thousands and
thousands of unknown figures and their desire to make a statement) into view. Thanks for the clarification.
Altogether quite wonderful. The square pieces of imagery, the flow of words, the depiction of light and flood.
Thank you mrsdaffodil. Interesting to think of ‘flow’ and ‘square’ together but I guess they go with light and flood. In this case. I’m glad you find it wonderful.
I started caring about the young glass cutter. And where did he come from.
Also, the use of water as a blanket over the couple is an image of great tenderness.
Thank you mrsdaffodil, You gave me an idea & I changed some things to include warmth.
Oh, very good!
