Dream
Iconic & poetic Dream – words of Martin Luther King Jr. whose Dream overlapped dimensions of human and social experience. His Dream was a world free of racism, colonialism, militarism, poverty, imperialism, and systemized social injustice. In his Dream & for his Dream he blended impassioned activism with an intellectual grasp of history. With his empathetic nature, faith in a loving God, and belief in the inevitability of justice, he interpreted history not according to the dictates of the state but rather on behalf of the oppressed. He payed with his life for his Dream.

I looked and looked to find the name of the photographer who took the famous shot of MLK praying. If you know who it is please let me know, I would love to credit him or her as well as the photographer of Gandhi & the creator of the Thoreau daguerreotype.

I like the progression of the images from the slow seascape enfolded with revelatory light, where the face is almost hidden, then the sudden abruptness of Gandhi’s face with Dr. King’s. Then the stillness of the burden in the final image.

All I saw in the first pieces until reading these comments was the ocean….and it was still so appropriate.

Steve, thanks for sending me the link to your blog. This entry particularly moves me. We all have dreams but Dr. King was able to dream wider and farther and more lovingly than most of us can.
