I was ‘barely old.’
by Steven McCabe
In 2015, when I did this drawing, I was barely old.
Leonard Cohen already said the more poetic almost young.

Little did I realize, ten years later, I would create my most energy-intensive work to date.
A whirlwind out-of-the-blue arrives to stir the cauldron.
I complete a diptych. An unexpected diptych.
Work #1 (of the diptych) discussed here.

Work #2 (of the diptych) discussed here.

Little did I realize, making my very first mark on the first roll of paper, the energy I would pour into this project.
It seems the whirlwind stirred up a triptych. An unexpected triptych.
One-third of my way into the final roll of 5′ X 33′ paper I needed to deal with matters requiring my attention.

Celtic bird-man (in a warmer black watercolour) is where & when the project paused on Work #3.
This pause allows me time to imagine & sketch multiple possibilities. Unexpected possibilities.
I will complete this large work (5′ X 100′) as soon as possible.

Beautiful work part 1 part 2 both. Well shared
Thank you for checking it out & your thoughts Priti. 🙂

Nice to see your work again. Finally found my way back
Almost a year later I’m catching up with you Steven. Boy, you’ve been busy! I have always been fascinated by your wizardry with the digital, but I really love this intricate surrender in your drawing. Some people are blessed with wonderful inner worlds. You seem to inhabit inner galaxies. I look forward to exploring more.
Hi Jana,
Nice to hear from you! Long time no see! I’ve been offsite for a while now and hope to return soon. Thank you for your generous words. I checked out your Instagram page
and your art is something to behold. Beautiful work!
Thanks Steven… I’ve been out of touch with WP for years, but kept my site active. And people wandered over from IG, which continues to surprise me. I’m glad I did though, because I frankly miss the depth of connection here.
It’s going to take awhile to figure out how to navigate the complexity of the new editor, as I’ll probably only be using a fraction of it. But hey! I love a puzzle.
It’s good to catch up with you!
Hi Jana, I have fallen in and out of WP myself. See, I found this comment of yours!
I’m not surprised people migrate from your IG page to here.
Your art & creative content (including text) is outstanding, wonderful & rare.
The new editor at first puzzled me too and now I can barely remember the old one.
Nice to see you!
